Steel Fire Doors — Supply & Installation UK

Capital supplies and installs fully certified steel fire doors across London and the UK, offering the highest level of fire resistance available for commercial, industrial, healthcare, and public sector buildings.

Our steel fire doors are engineered to withstand extreme temperatures and provide certified protection where standard timber doors cannot meet the required fire rating. From warehouses and factories to schools and hospitals, we deliver compliant doorsets tailored to your building's specific requirements.

Steel Fire Door Ratings Explained

Fire door ratings indicate how long a door can resist fire and smoke. Steel fire doors offer the widest range of ratings available, making them suitable for the most demanding environments:

  • FD30 – 30 minutes fire resistance — suitable for lower-risk compartmentation
  • FD60 – 60 minutes fire resistance — commonly used in larger commercial buildings
  • FD90 – 90 minutes fire resistance — for higher-risk environments
  • FD120 – Up to 120 minutes integrity protection — standard for warehouses and industrial facilities
  • FD240 – Up to 240 minutes — the highest commercially available rating, for critical infrastructure

Our FD120 steel fire doors are commonly specified for high-risk environments. For critical infrastructure requirements, we can also supply FD240-rated doorsets — the highest level of commercially available fire protection.

Why Steel Fire Doors?

Timber fire doors are the right choice for most residential and light commercial settings, but there are environments where steel is the only practical option. Steel fire doors are typically specified when:

  • Higher fire ratings (FD90, FD120, FD240) are required
  • The door will be exposed to impact, vandalism, or heavy traffic
  • External installation is required — steel doors can be fully weatherproofed
  • Corrosion resistance is a priority (galvanised skin construction)
  • Security as well as fire resistance is needed

Steel Fire Door Features

BS EN 1634-1 & BS 476-22 Certified: Tested for up to 120-minute fire integrity as standard, with FD240 available.

CE Marked / UKCA Compliant: Fully marked doorsets that simplify compliance with UK building regulations and construction product requirements.

Heavy-Gauge Galvanised Construction: 20–16 gauge galvanised steel skins around a mineral wool core resist impact, forced entry, and corrosion.

Internal & External Use: Weatherproof seal options allow the same doorset to be used in internal or external locations.

Full Hardware Suite: Supplied with fire-rated hinges, intumescent strips, smoke seals, self-closing devices, and compliant ironmongery.

UK Compliance & Certification

All our steel fire doors are rigorously tested and certified in line with UK fire safety legislation and building regulations:

  • BS EN 1634-1 — fire resistance and smoke control testing
  • BS 476 Part 22 — fire integrity and insulation standards
  • Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005
  • Approved Document B (Fire Safety)
  • UK construction product marking requirements

  • BM TRADA
  • CHAS
  • UKAS
  • Constructionline Gold

Steel fire doors typically offer ratings from FD30 to FD120 as standard. Specialist FD240-rated doorsets are also available for critical infrastructure applications.

Yes. Steel fire doors can be specified with weatherproof seals, making them suitable for external use on factories, warehouses, and industrial buildings.

BS 476 and BS EN 1634-1 specify the fire resistance tests doorsets must pass. UKCA marking indicates compliance with UK construction product regulations following the withdrawal from the EU CE marking framework. Both may appear on certified doorsets currently in supply.

Steel fire doors must comply with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, be tested to relevant British Standards, and be regularly inspected and maintained to remain compliant.

Yes. All fire doors — including steel doorsets — require regular inspection and maintenance to ensure they remain compliant and fully operational. We offer planned preventative maintenance packages to support ongoing compliance.
