The challenge

The school had a number of fire doors that did not meet current fire safety standards.

Many were not certificated and would not have performed as required in the event of a fire. With hundreds of pupils and staff on site each day, it was essential to bring the building up to compliance quickly, safely, and with minimal disruption.

Our approach

We began with a full fire door inspection across the site. This helped us identify which doors required replacement and allowed us to plan the works in a structured way.

Every non-certificated door was removed and replaced with new FD30s-rated doors and frames. These were fully compliant with British Standards and certified under the BM TRADA Q-Mark scheme. Our installers worked efficiently and respectfully around school hours to keep disruption to a minimum. Once the installation was complete, we put in place a proactive maintenance plan.

Every six months, our team will return to check each fire door for wear, damage, or changes to compliance, helping the school stay ahead of any future issues and maintain a high standard of safety.

The outcome

The school now benefits from a fully compliant fire door system throughout the building.

Our work provides peace of mind for staff and the Trust, knowing that the right protection is in place should a fire ever occur.

Plus, the maintenance plan also ensures that compliance doesn’t lapse over time, something that’s often overlooked but essential for long-term safety.
